Amy Silberkleit

I make detailed renderings of natural objects and landscapes. My medium is stone lithography, which allows a wide range of tones, the ability to make duplicates without resorting to electronics and the use of other techniques (Chine colle, additional colored inks, e.g.). The stone is an excellent ground for drawing with its fine uniform grain. 

The devastating changes to life as we know it in the last two years have caused me to change my subject matter, and to explore resonances with the pandemic of 1918-19. I have a collection of hats from that era, and veiled portraits of a woman wearing them feel more relevant for this time than landscapes or still-lifes. The hats' varied textures and ornamentation are beautiful. Their style is clearly from another time, but the masked face and searching eyes are once again a deeply troubling part of everyday life.

Amy received a B.A. from Stony Brook University where she focused on printmaking, and a Certificate in Natural Science Art and Illustration from the New York Botanical Gardens .She was the artistic director of The Rod and the Rose Puppet Theatre and sold puppets and fabric collages in juried craft festivals and to private collectors. Her lithography studio is located in Gilboa,N.Y.

Her lithographs and drawings have been in juried shows at the Spencertown Art Academy, The Art Students League Outreach Program, The Hudson Valley Art Association, Cooperstown Art Association, Woodstock Artists Association and Museum,The Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Albany Institute of History and Art, The Arkell Museum, Manhattan Graphic Center,  Blue Mountain Gallery, Illiana Gallery, Upstream Gallery, Roxbury Arts Group, Providence Art Club as well as The Stagecoach Run Art Show and the Twilight Park Art Exhibition.
